Server Verification

Server verification proves that you control the Minecraft server at a given public address. It applies to a server already linked to your VoxelBench account: verifying does not link it. Auto-bench needs a verified server.

How It Works

  1. Link the server first with /bench link (see Account Linking).
  2. On voxelbench.com, the linked server's page has a Server Verification section. Enter the server's public address there and generate a code (format: VOXEL-XXXXX). The code is valid for 10 minutes.
  3. You run the verification command on your server.
  4. The plugin registers the attempt with voxelbench.com, which checks that the code was generated for this server, and adds hidden verification data to your server's status response (the server list ping, which includes the MOTD).
  5. voxelbench.com pings the address, finds that data and marks the server as verified.

A server can be verified by one account only.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Get a Verification Code

Open your VoxelBench dashboard, then the page of the linked server. In Server Verification, enter the address players use to join (the port is optional) and click Generate Code. You'll receive a code like VOXEL-A1B2C, valid for 10 minutes.

2. Run the Verification Command

On your server, run:

/bench verify VOXEL-A1B2C

The plugin will:

  • Validate the code format
  • Contact the VoxelBench backend to register the verification attempt; the code only works on the server whose page generated it
  • Add the verification data to the server list ping response, hidden below the visible lines of the MOTD
  • Check with the backend every 10 seconds whether verification is complete

3. Complete Verification on the Website

Return to voxelbench.com: once the page says the plugin is activated, click Verify Server. The website pings your server to confirm ownership.

4. Verification Complete

Once the website confirms your server, the verification data is removed from the ping response, and the player who started the verification (plus online players with voxelbench.verify) receives a success message in-game.

Commands

CommandDescription
/bench verify <CODE>Start verification with the given code
/bench verify statusCheck if verification is active and time remaining
/bench verify cancelCancel the ongoing verification

Timeout and Security

  • The code generated on the website expires after 10 minutes: the plugin must register it, and you must click Verify Server, within that time. After that, generate a new code.
  • On the server, the verification data stays in the ping response for at most 15 minutes, then is removed automatically
  • Only one verification can be active at a time
  • If you need to use a different code, cancel the current one first with /bench verify cancel

Offline Mode

If the VoxelBench backend cannot be reached when you run the command, the plugin still adds the verification data to the ping response ("offline mode"). The website, however, only verifies a server whose plugin has registered the code: once the connection works again (/bench ping helps), run /bench verify cancel, then /bench verify <CODE> again while the code is still valid.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid format" Error

The code must match the pattern VOXEL-XXXXX (5 letters or digits). Make sure you copied it correctly from the website.

What the Site Answered

When voxelbench.com refuses the code, /bench verify says why. In each of these cases, nothing is added to the ping response:

MessageMeaning and what to do
"This verification code has expired."The 10 minutes are over. Generate a new code on the server's page, then run /bench verify with it
"This code was generated for another server."The code belongs to another server of your account, recognised by its identity (plugins/VoxelBench/identity.yml, see Privacy). Run the command on the server whose page generated it, or generate a code on this server's page
"Too many verification attempts."The site limits the attempts. Wait a few minutes before trying again: retyping the command at once does not help
"Verification code not found."The site does not know this code (mistyped, or replaced by a newer one). Generate a new code
"This server is already verified on voxelbench.com: nothing to do."The server is already verified: nothing is added to the ping, and there is nothing to click on the website

A code the site rejects as malformed shows "Invalid verification code: โ€ฆ"; an error on the site's side shows "Server error (HTTP โ€ฆ)" followed by "Please try again later.".

Verification Not Completing

  1. Ensure your server's game port is reachable from the internet at the address you entered (behind a proxy such as BungeeCord or Velocity, the website must reach this server's status response)
  2. Check that no firewall is blocking incoming connections on the game port
  3. Check that the code has not expired (10 minutes): otherwise generate a new one
  4. Try cancelling and re-starting the verification with /bench verify cancel followed by /bench verify <CODE>

"Another verification in progress" Error

A previous verification is still active. Cancel it first:

/bench verify cancel

Then start a new one with your code.
